Composer's Notes
Agnus Dei (from Indonesian Mass) is a project to combine Indonesian traditional music elements and Western writing style.
The composition is set to imitate a Balinese dance that is rich with contrasting tempo - slow and fast tempos interchanging one to the other. The diatonic scale is chosen to be the slow movement and the pentatonic pelog scale is chosen to be the fast one.
It starts with a series of short sentences that end with a dissonant chord to replicate the mystical ambience that one would hear in most of Balinese traditional dances. This pieces uses the diatonic, pelog and slendro scales at various parts of the music.
