Three Organ Anthems (Complete) (SATB)
The anthems are merely the latest in a centuries-old lineage of sacred choral works that are built on the same principle – the pairing of a text with a Protestant chorale. Written primarily for novice singers, the choral parts are primarily split between male and female voices, and are almost always guided along by the organ. These anthems are not tied to any particular liturgical season or occasion, but can be used in any service as the music director sees fit. Perhaps the Scripture reading overlaps with the words set in the anthems, or the words of the closing chorales reflect some portion of the message preached – in any case, the music can be used to further reinforce the import of the sermon or occasion. Likewise for use in concerts, any overarching theme in the performance can influence the choice of anthems to be sung.
These anthems are also available separately.
