The popular version of the song (as used in this arrangement) professes love to their beloved but sadly accepts that their love could not end well. The original version, with five verses, has a more romantic and positive ending as it was used by the original composer, Gregorio Responso Labja of Tagum City, to lure his beloved Noemi when he was yet courting her. The two-verse version was wrongly attributed to Nitoy Gonzales of Cebu City, and became popular through renditions done by popular singers such as Susan Fuentes and Pilita Corales.
