Soleram (SA)
This accessible arrangement of the Indonesian lullaby Soleram is written with developing choirs in mind. Elberdin carefully shapes the vocal lines to sit comfortably within young voices’ ranges, while introducing gentle musical challenges that encourage growth. Much of the writing is stepwise, with occasional leaps of fourths and fifths for variety. Sustained intervals sometimes shift from consonance into mild dissonance before moving on naturally, giving singers a taste of harmonic colour without overwhelming them.
The result is a simple yet elegant setting, ideal for beginning children’s choirs who are ready to stretch themselves a little. Supported by a sensitive piano accompaniment, this arrangement allows singers to explore text, melody, and expressive phrasing.
