Tri La Li La La (SSAA)
A Peranakan folk song arranged for developing treble choirs. Like many folk songs in the Malay language, follows the pantun poetic form - a traditional Malay verse structure known for its paired lines. Each pantun consists of two parts: the first introduces an image, often drawn from nature or daily life, while the second conveys an idea or emotion. Though they may seem unrelated at first, they are always connected through rhyme, rhythm, and verbal associations such as puns or repeated sounds.
In this lively, dance-like song, the lyrics celebrate joy, community, and gratitude. The opening lines use imagery of banana shoots and blossoming flowers, evoking growth and renewal, while later verses express a longing or uncertainty - a contrast often found in Malay poetry. However, the song ultimately emphasizes togetherness and appreciation, inviting people of all ages to gather, celebrate, and be thankful for one another. The final lines highlight the Peranakan values of hospitality and warmth, acknowledging those who have traveled from afar with heartfelt thanks.
