Himaya [Glory] (SATB)
$5.00
Himaya is the Visayan word for “glory.” Originally titled Gloria, this piece is an excerpt from the larger work Missa Austri (Mass of the South) by the composer, a title referring to Cebuano, the language spoken in the southern Philippines. In Himaya, the Latin text of the Roman Catholic Mass intertwines with musical elements inspired by both contemporary styles and Philippine indigenous music, creating a unique and vibrant expression of cultural and spiritual themes.
The Holy Name University Chorale performed this work and won the Special Award for Best Interpretation of a Choral Work by a Southeast Asian Composer at the Sing ‘n’ Joy Bohol 2024 International Choir Competition.
