Sanctus (SATB)
Originally taken from the Roman Missal, Sanctus was first performed by Cantata Manila Ensemble, under the direction of Gerard Dela Peña, at the 2022 Musica Sacra Choral Competition. This compelling setting has since gained recognition as a winning piece, securing top honors at the Himig ng Mabuting Balita Choral Competition and the Macau International Choral Competition and Festival 2024, where Cantata Manila Ensemble was awarded the grand prix and category winner in the sacred category.
Driven by rhythmic energy and interlocking vocal layers, Sanctus creates a dynamic and immersive choral experience. In the middle, the composition shifts into a slow, resonant homophonic structure yet rich with harmonic movement, before returning to its intricate rhythmic momentum.
Infused with reverence and vitality, this piece invites choirs to engage with its compelling rhythmic drive and layered textures, making it an exciting choice for sacred performances, competitions, and concerts alike.
