Singapore
Gerald Tan is a choral educator, arranger, and advocate who unites music education, performance, and cultural representation to make lasting contributions to the choral community. He holds a Master of Music in Music Education, a degree in Sociology, and certifications in Voice, Piano, and Conducting. This blend of musical training and sociological insight shapes Gerald’s holistic approach to music-making, where he values not only artistic excellence but also the social and cultural contexts that give music meaning.
As a choral educator, Gerald directs several primary and secondary school choirs across Singapore and teaches with the Voices of Singapore Children’s Choir. His teaching is grounded in inclusivity and impact, nurturing confidence, musical literacy, and a love of ensemble singing in every chorister, regardless of background or experience.
Gerald’s choral arrangements have been performed internationally. His writing highlights pedagogical clarity and accessibility, enabling singers of different skill levels to experience the joy of expressive, well-crafted music.
He is also founder and Chief Editor of Muziksea, Southeast Asia’s largest choral music publisher. Based in Singapore, Muziksea connects Southeast Asian choral artistry with the global stage. Guided by his sociological perspective, Gerald leads the platform with a focus on representation, equity, and cultural advocacy. Through Muziksea, he champions repertoire, knowledge, and heritage that broaden and diversify the global choral canon.
Beyond traditional choral work, Gerald is the founder and singer of The Jolly Four, a Singaporean barbershop quartet. Within a short time, the group achieved recognition by winning a gold award at their first international competition. Steve Scott of the Barbershop Harmony Society has described The Jolly Four as “Singapore’s premiere barbershop ensemble.”
